8th Grade Social Studies Standards and Benchmarks

Standard 1:    Students understand the issues facing

                        the global community.

 

Benchmark 1: Students will gain knowledge of current events.

 

Standard 2:    Students understand the principles

                        and practices of citizenship.

 

Benchmark 2:  Describe the rights and responsibilities of citizens in the United States.

 

Standard 3:  Students understand the relationship

                                  among people, places, and the  environment.

Benchmark 3: Students will describe the effects of war.

 

Benchmark 4: Students will interpret maps and diagrams.

 

Standard 4:  Students understand the structures of

                      power, authority, and governance.

 

Benchmark 5: The Student will understand the seven principles of government

that helped to shape the Constitution: Republicanism/ Separation of Powers /

Limited Government/ Popular Sovereignty/ Federalism/ Checks and Balances/
